Travelers on southbound Route 1 can expect brief daytime delays on the Falmouth Bridge next week for a scheduled, routine inspection.
The inspection will take place Monday through Wednesday. Route 1 southbound will be reduced to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Work has been scheduled to occur, weather permitting.
Both lanes of northbound Route 1 will remain open.
Built in 1943, the Falmouth Bridge carries an average of 40,000 vehicles a day over the Rappahannock River, according to recent traffic counts. A major rehabilitation project is currently in the design phase to improve the structure’s condition.
