“Some subjects are just too iconic to ignore—and for years, one familiar swirl has found its way into our exhibits again and again: Carl’s Frozen Custard.

Whether it’s a playful nod in a painting, a glowing sign in the background of a photo, or a full-on homage to the legendary stand, Carl’s always seems to show up. So, this year, we decided to embrace it.

Introducing CarlsCore, an art show devoted entirely to the spirit, sweetness, and style of Carl’s Frozen Custard in Downtown Fredericksburg. Whether it’s the iconic sign glowing at dusk, the mid-century building that’s a time capsule of American charm, or the swirl-topped cones that make summer feel like summer… this place means something to everyone.

The show brings together a wide range of artworks across mediums, all inspired by the essence of Carl’s. You’ll find paintings, photographs, drawings, and ceramics that capture the timeless charm of its retro architecture, the changing seasons and moods Carl’s has witnessed, families enjoying sweet moments together, and even abstract interpretations of this iconic establishment.

Each piece in CarlsCore offers a personal interpretation of what Carl’s means to our artists—and to all of us.
