15 Holiday Events Thanksgiving Weekend

Meadow Event Park Illuminate Light Show and Santa’s Village
November 14, 2014, through January 3, 2015, nightly, 5:30 – 10 p.m., including holidays
Meadow Event Park, 13111 Dawn Blvd., Doswell.
Experience hundreds of thousands of LED lights synchronized to music from your car radio. The show features an 80-foot tunnel of lights, 50-foot Christmas trees, dancing snowmen and festive decorations. After the show, spend some time in Santa’s Village, with pictures with Santa, children’s activities, food and more.
Cost is $23 per car online in advance, or $25 at the gate. See the website for limousine and mini-bus and full-size bus admission prices.

Christmas Lights Walk Through Display
Outside Paul’s Bakery and Paul’s Young at Heart, 2008 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg.
Thanksgiving Weekend Kick-Off hours are 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 30. Santa visits 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Regular hours are 6:30 – 9 p.m. daily from Friday, Dec. 5, through Thursday, Dec. 25.
Free. A donation for Toys for Tots is requested.

A Christmas Carol, The Musical
Friday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m.
Spotsylvania High School, 6975 Courthouse Rd., Spotsylvania.
Tickets are $15 online, $16 at-the-door, and $13 group discount (10 ticket minimum)

Night Before Christmas Hayride and Story
Friday, Nov. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 29. Rides at 4, 6 and 8 p.m.
Caledon State Park, 11617 Caledon Rd., King George. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Sing holiday songs while taking a wagon ride through the winter woods. Guests return to the visitor center for hot chocolate and a reading of the classic holiday story “‘Twas the night before Christmas.”
Cost is $3 per person, $8 for the whole family. Reservations are required. Call 540-663-3861.

Open Late Fridays
A majority of downtown businesses are participating in Open Late Fridays, a new initiative spearheaded by the Fredericksburg Main Street Initiative (FMSI). Businesses displaying the yellow “Open Late” flag will be open until at least 8 p.m. every Friday from November 7 through December 19.

The James Monroe Museum Open Late
Friday, Nov. 28, 5 – 8 p.m.
James Monroe Museum, 908 Charles St.
Music and light refreshments. Free admission.

Early Bird Specials for Small Business Saturday
Saturday, Nov. 29, 8 – 10 a.m. at more than 50 downtown Fredericksburg businesses.
Free coffee and pastries — until they run out — at the Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St., and Raven Hi-Fi, 214 William St.

Small Business Saturday in Downtown Fredericksburg
Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. – store closings.
Shop downtown Fredericksburg for unique gifts and holiday specials. Santa and Mrs. Claus will join the George Washington’s Young Friends strolling downtown from 12 – 3 p.m.

Pamper Me Expo
Saturday, Nov. 29, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
A.D.S. Meeting and Training Center, 107 Westwood Office Park, Fredericksburg.
A gathering of locally owned businesses offering specials for Small Business Saturday.
Free admission.

Nature Crafts for Christmas
Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Motts Run Nature Center, 6600 River Rd,, Fredericksburg.
Everyone leaves with a handful of homemade gifts. Wear old clothes and a jacket as some activities are outside. Kids nine and under must attend with a non-paying adult.
Cost is $12 per child, age seven to 16. Pre-registration is required. Call 540-372-1086

Children’s Tree Lighting at Hurkamp Park
Saturday, Nov. 29, 4:30 – 6 p.m.
Hurkamp Park, Prince Edward and George Streets,
Free snacks, crafts and music. Santa arrives at 4:45 p.m. The Patriot Singers from Hugh Mercer Elementary School will perform.

John Frazer Ghost Tour
Saturday, Nov. 29, 6 – 9 p.m.
The Rising Sun Tavern, 1304 Caroline St.
Mr. Frazier was the first tavern keeper of the property.
Admission is $7. Children under age six are free.

Swing Machine
Saturday, Nov. 29, 7:30 – 11 p.m.
Cabaret at Fredericksburg Square, 525 Caroline St., Fredericksburg.
Dinner and performance is $60 per person; performance only is $35 per person. Tickets are available online.

Breakfast with Santa at Eileen’s
Sundays Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Dec. 21, seatings at 8:30 and 10 a.m.
Eileen’s Bakery & Cafe, 1115 Caroline St., Fredericksburg.
Tickets are $11.99 – $15.99. Please read all the instructions before purchase.

Mr. Grinch Carriage Rides
Sundays, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, and Dec. 21 (weather permitting). Call 540-318-7455 for times.
In front of the Fredericksburg Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St., Fredericksburg
Take a 15 minutes carriage ride with Mr. Grinch along Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
$5 tickets can be purchased from Mr. Grinch on a walk up basis only!
