10 Holiday Celebrations December 4 – 7 [Video]

Hello. I’m Susan Larson of Fredericksburg Today. Welcome to the video version of our Weekend Planner.

The weekend of December fifth through seventh is filled with holiday events. I’ll highlight 10. See our comprehensive list on Fredericksburg dot Today.

The University of Mary Washington Philharmonic presents its Holiday POPS concert at 7:30 Thursday and Friday. Tickets are ten dollars.

Downtown art galleries host their First Friday receptions from 6 to 9 p.m.

As part of the holiday season, downtown businesses are extending their hours until at least eight on Friday. Look for the yellow “Open Late” flags.

The Fredericksburg Holiday Craft Show is at the Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday. Organizers say it’s the biggest ever, with more than 250 participants. Bring an unwrapped new toy to donate to Toys for Tots and receive one dollar off your admission.

The Rocking Horse Gallery in downtown Fredericksburg celebrates its 32nd anniversary from 11 to 4 on Saturday. The Teddy Bear shop and museum invites you to stop by and meet some of the nationally renowned artists who create the Teddy Bears.

The Fredericksburg Community Chorus presents Handel’s Messiah Saturday at 2 and Sunday at 7. The free concert is at Fredericksburg Baptist Church on Princess Anne Street.

The James Monroe Museum presents “A Monroe Christmas” from 3 to 5:30 on Saturday. The free event includes music and refreshments.

From there you can stroll to your spot to watch the Fredericksburg Christmas Parade, which begins at 5:30. The parade travels northeast on Caroline from and Charlotte Street, and returns along Princess Anne Street.

The 28th Annual Gingerbread Contest and Exhibit at Ferry Farm, George Washington’s boyhood home, opens Sunday and runs through December 30. Admission ranges from two to eight dollars. Children under six are free.

Mary Washington House, the Fredericksburg home George purchased for his mother, hosts its annual open house and candlelight tour from 4:30 to 7 on Sunday. Admission is free.
