Your Attitude Affects Your End Result

A weekly column on Fredericksburg.Today by Linda Clevenger, Organization Direct.

Last week we talked about how life happens … and you end up with a messy room that needs attention.

To expand on that, I’d like to share my attitude experience.

Let me start by saying … worry solves absolutely nothing! It can’t (and won’t) change events that have happened, and it won’t change your end result. What it will do is stop you from thinking clearly and change your focus from finding a solution to thinking about the “what if.”  Worrying will keep you focused on things that you cannot change and that are outside of what you can control.

Instead, try concentrating your effort on how to “handle” the situation and how you can turn it into a positive experience.

Staying positive isn’t easy! I am a pretty transparent person. I’m real and “life happens” in our family.

But, what I have found over the years is that my attitude toward a situation totally affects the words that come out of my mouth –- and ultimately affects my end result.

Instead of getting mad (or allowing negative and angry thoughts to come into my head), I first try to think about the “reason” for the situation.  Just a few weeks ago, we received two statements in the mail which were both much higher than we had anticipated. One of them was from our homeowners association. They had tacked on a large amount to our semi-annual bill and somehow we owed late payments … really?

I knew that the bill was wrong. but one of the things that I dislike the most is when I have to call the ladies in the office. For some reason, they just don’t seem real happy to work there.

So before I called, I made sure that I had the right attitude. I took a few deep breaths, said a few
positive words and came to the conclusion that it was a simple error on their part. I just had to politely bring it to their attention. It worked! They were super-uber nice to me, said that it was an error and that they would be sending me a corrected bill (taking off over $90 in fees). Woot!

That is one of the stories.  The other story involved an insurance bill for our new camper. The
insurance company kept trying to say that it was valued at way more than we paid for it, which, of course, was going to make our insurance cost more. So, after thinking about it, my husband and I decided that the bill was probably generated before we talked to them last and it was sent in error. That phone call ended in the same result. The agent told us not to pay it. It was sent in error.

My point in writing this article is that I have learned that attitude is everything! A positive attitude will affect your end result, reduce your stress level and help your focus and

Staying positive also helps keep you focused on your ‘To Do List’ and stay organized! Don’t
let life get in the way.  The best thing about staying positive is that you will definitely reduce the
amount of every day drama.
