Gov. Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency for Virginia in response to today’s storm.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Fredericksburg region through 9 p.m. Monday, March 3, including the counties of Spotsylvania, Orange, Stafford and King George.
Heavy snow will continue through the morning and taper off from north to south in the late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Six to ten inches total is predicted. Sleet and freezing rain could mix-in at times, making travel extremely dangerous.
In addition, north winds from 10 to 20 miles-per-hour with gusts up to 30 will add to the seriousness of this storm.
Morning temperatures in the 20s will fall into the teens midday.
“Significant amounts of ice and snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous and potentially cause power outages,” the NWS said. “Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, water and blankets in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”
