Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) presents Fly Fishing 101 from 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Aug. 16.

“This is a perfect workshop for beginning fly fishers and Scouts working on the fly fishing merit badge,” said Woodie Walker, community conservationist with Friends of the Rappahannock.

Falmouth Flats Fly Fishers will teach participants to cast a fly rod and tie flies.  Meet at Old Cossey Pond adjacent to Memorial Park (formerly Kenmore Park) along Fredericksburg’s Canal Path.  Memorial Park is located on the corner of Kenmore Avenue and Mary Ball Street. The three-acre impoundment pond is part of Virginia’s Urban Fishing Program.

All ages are welcome to Fly Fishing 101.  The cost is $15/individual or $45/family — up to four people ($12 and $36 for FOR members).  Gear will be provided.  Pre-registration is required online on FOR’s website.

Falmouth Flats Fly Fishers is the Fredericksburg-based nonprofit charter club of the Federation of Fly Fishers, dedicated to conserving, restoring and educating through fly fishing.

Friends of the Rappahannock (was formed in 1985 as a non-profit, grassroots conservation organization with the mission “to be the voice and active force for a healthy and scenic Rappahannock River.
