The Rappahannock United Way (RUW) is offering several free services to help individuals file their 2013 Income Taxes.
From 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, RUW is hosting “Ladies Night for Financial Divas,” a free event for women to learn how to how to complete and file their 2013 taxes. Coaches will be present to answer all tax related questions and provide guidance. Participants are asked to bring all income forms (W2’s, 1099’s, etc.), a photo ID and the social security cards for all dependents.
Ladies night will be held at the Rappahannock United Way offices, 3310 Shannon Park Dr. in Fredericksburg. No appointment is needed. “Bring your children with you if you don’t have childcare,” the RUW said. Refreshments will be served.
If you worked in 2013 and your household income was less than $58,000, you are eligible for free tax services from the RUW. You may also be eligible to claim and receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) of up to $6,044.
The RUW Free Tax Service webpage provides the details and requirements for three options:
Free full-service tax preparation provided by IRS certified volunteers at multiple locations.
Free tax-filing assistance at select locations, with guidance by trained volunteer tax coaches.
Free tax-filing online with software that does the math for you.
Federal income tax is due Tuesday, April 15, 2014. “The IRS reminds taxpayers that anyone can request an automatic six-month extension to file their tax return,” said the IRS webpage. “The request is easily done with Form 4868, which can be filed electronically or on paper.”
If you are filing on your own, the IRS encourages taxpayers to use e-file or Free File as the fastest way to receive refunds.
Virginia income tax returns are due Thursday, May 1, 2014. You may download forms and instructions from the Virginia Department of Taxation website, or request them by calling 804-440-2541. You may also use Free File/E-File.
