Spotsylvania County is now accepting registrations for its unique Civil War Kids Camp. The hands-on camp for children ages 7 – 14 will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at the historic Dabney House.  The age determination date is Jan. 1, 2014.

Campers will visit various stations throughout the day to learn what life would have been like during the Civil War.  Stations will include life in the military, home life for families, the Underground Railroad, women’s roles in the war and more.

Registration is $40 per child ($60 for non-residents) and is limited to the first 100 children.  You can register online or obtain registration forms from the website or the Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation Department office at 10910 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg.  Mail completed forms with payment to Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation Department, Spotsylvania, Va., 22553.

Children who attend the Civil War Kids Camp will receive two free tickets to the 2014 Civil War sesquicentennial Reenactment of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse Battles on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 – 4, 2014.
