Come fly with Christian Youth Theater (CYT) Fredericksburg on their journey to Neverland when they present the musical Peter Pan March 7 – 9 and March 14 – 16.
Performances will be held at Spotsylvania High School, 6975 Courthouse Rd. in Spotsylvania.
More than 90 young people from ages 8 to 18 participate in all aspects of the production, on stage and backstage. “CYT is dedicated to developing character in children and adults through training in the arts by producing wholesome family entertainment,” said Allison Mayberry, CYT marketing and publicity director.
Many CYT member families started as audience members. A great example of this is the Briggs family.
This family of eight has been part of CYT since 2010. Mom and three sisters are all involved in Peter Pan. Cristy, 16, plays Wendy, Casi, 18, plays Tiger Lilly, Cori, 20, is choreographer and Momma Briggs — as she is fondly called by the cast — is in charge of the hair committee.
Each Briggs girl has been on stage together at some point and each of them consider it a blessing to work with her sisters. “CYT is like one big family,” said Cristy. “The people are so kind, encouraging and loving.”
Casi says Peter Pan is a show for everyone. “You should come see Peter Pan because there’s something in it for all ages,” she said. “There’s fun spirit, magical flying, the cute and silly Lost Boys, the comedic and snarky Captain Hook, pirates and fierce dancing Indians.”
Peter Pan and the cast of characters are definitely center stage, but without the hard working parents backstage, the show would look very different.
Momma Briggs, for example, is in charge of 96 hairstyles for the production. She and her team of moms, working with the costume and makeup committees, transform local young people into the characters of Neverland.
CYT’s production also offers real flying. Flying by Foy, the same company which flew the original Broadway Peter Pan, gives flight to CYT’s Peter, Wendy, John and Michael.
Tickets may be purchased online or at the door. Prices are $14 online, $16 at the door and $12 each for a group discount of 10 or more tickets.
