Virginia Breast Health Center Names New Director

Mary Washington Healthcare has appointed Kay Blanchard, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., to be Medical Director of the Virginia Breast Health Center at Stafford Hospital’s Regional Cancer Center.

Dr. Blanchard is a physician with Surgical Associates of Fredericksburg. She received her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta and completed her residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.. She specializes in breast cancer treatment and surgery and has treated more than 2,000 breast cancer patients. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

The Virginia Breast Health Center offers routine screenings and breast exams, as well as special services for women who have breast cancer or who are at high risk of developing breast cancer. Treatment may involve a multidisciplinary team approach to eradicate tumors and restore the breasts to their most natural appearance with only one surgery. Patients also have access to a dedicated breast health coordinator, who provides guidance and support from diagnosis through follow-up.
