January Detour at Charles Street, Frederick Street Intersection

by | Jan 5, 2015 | Government

Submitted by Virginia Railway Express (VRE).

On Tuesday, January 6, 2015, weather permitting, the intersection of Charles Street and Frederick Street, just south of the railroad tracks near the train station, will be closed to permit the replacement of the sanitary sewer manhole in the intersection and other related work. Charles Street will also be closed at Lafayette Boulevard.

These closures will require the re-routing of vehicle traffic in the area, including traffic into and out of Virginia Railway Express parking lots west of Prince Edward Street (Lots G and H) as well as Lot C between Charles Street and Prince Edward Street. Users of these lots are urged to look for detour signs, allow additional time to access the parking lots in the mornings and anticipate additional time to leave the lots in the evenings. The detour map is attached.

Pedestrian access between the parking lot and the train station will NOT be affected during the closure of the intersection. Commuters will be able to continue to use Frederick Street to access the train station and the parking lots.

Every effort will be made to complete the work requiring the closures in a timely manner, but those travelling in the area should anticipate that the closures and detour will remain in place through the month of January.
