U.S. Senator Mark Warner (right) met with Germanna Community College engineering students January 18, 2015, at their can structure “Melt Away Hunger” during CANstruction at Spotsylvania Towne Centre.

During the annual event sponsored by the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, teams from Planning District 16 — the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and King George — build sculptures out of canned goods, depicting how one can make a difference in the lives of the hungry in our community. All cans used in the creations are donated to the food bank.

Judging for the “People’s Choice Award” is open to the public through the donation of one canned good per vote. Official judging for all other categories takes place on Monday, Jan 19. Winners will be announced at the official awards ceremony in Center Court at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
