Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts March 29 – April 4

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports the following “hot spots” in the Fredericksburg region for Sunday, March 29, through Saturday, April 4, 2015.

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue
(Update) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closure. Motorists should expect delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and the entrance to Crestview Apartments. Traffic will be reduced to one lane, and motorists will be directed through the work zone by a flagging crew. Crews are removing trees along Fall Hill Avenue as part of a road widening project. Single lane closures will continue on weekdays at this location for the next few weeks.

Stafford County

Interstate 95 Bridge over Route 17 at Exit 133 (Falmouth)
(Update) Sunday – Tuesday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Two lanes closed. Motorists should expect brief delays on southbound I-95 at the bridge over Route 17 located near Exit 133 (Falmouth) in Stafford County. Crews are repairing the bridge deck.

Falmouth Intersection
(Update) Work continues on the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project. Motorists will experience lane closures and delays at the following locations this week:
Sunday: Route 1 south – one lane closed from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Monday – Thursday: Route 1 south – one lane will be closed north of the intersection from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Monday – Thursday: Route 1 north – one lane will be closed from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Thursday: Route 218 westbound – one lane closed on from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Route 820 (Longwood Drive)
(New) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; crews will be paving on Longwood Drive between Rockhill Church Road and Garrisonville Road. Motorists should expect brief delays and be alert to construction crews and equipment.

Route 627 (Mountain View Road)
(New) Wednesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; crews will be paving on Mountain View Road between Willowmere Pond Road and Poplar Road. Motorists should expect brief delays and be alert to construction crews and equipment.

Hunter’s Trail
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Crews will be milling and paving on various streets in the Hunter’s Trail subdivision. Motorists should expect brief delays, a rough driving surface and be alert to construction crew and equipment in the area.

Stone Hill
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Crews will be milling and paving on various streets in the Stone Hill subdivision. Motorists should expect brief delays, a rough driving surface and be alert to construction crews and equipment in the area.

Settler’s Landing
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Crews will be milling and paving on various streets in the Settler’s Landing subdivision. Motorists should expect brief delays, a rough driving surface and be alert to construction crews and equipment in the area.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 613 – tree trimming
Route 656 – ditch cleaning
Route 1 North – expect delays just south of Stafford Hospital and just north of Stafford Courthouse for pavement base repair work.

Construction
Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218)
Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Butler Road and Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Project completion date is September 2015.

Spotsylvania County

Falcon Drive
(New) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; motorists should expect delays and a rough driving surface on Falcon Drive between Mine Road and the cul-de-sac. Crews will be milling in this area.

Market Street
(New) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; motorists should expect delays and a rough driving surface on Market Street between Route 1 and Spotsylvania Avenue. Crews will be milling in this area.

Leavells Road
(New) Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7 p.m. – midnight; motorists will be restricted to a single lane on the northbound side of Leavells Road near the Harrison Road intersection. Crews will be milling, pouring concrete for the median and cutting loops on Leavells Road in connection with the Route 639 (Leavells Road) and Route 620 (Harrison Road) Improvement Project.

Route 658 (Mount Olive Road)
Bridge closure. Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) is closed to all traffic at the Hanover and Spotsylvania county line due to a bridge closure over the North Anna River. The bridge is closed for motorist safety. No re-opening date is available at this time. Temporary detour signs are posted to guide travelers along the detour route. Permanent detour signs are being fabricated, and will be posted in several weeks.

Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 3 – shoulder repairs from Corter Avenue to the Orange County line.
Route 674 (Chancellor Road) – shoulder repairs
Route 613 (Brock Road) – tree trimming
Route 656 (Towles Mill Road) – ditch cleaning

Construction
Leavells Road at Harrison Road
The median and turn lane improvement project at the Route 639 (Leavells Road) and Route 620 (Harrison Road) intersection is underway. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures, construction activity and temporary traffic patterns through April 2015, when the project will be completed.

Loriella Park Drive
The road is currently closed with a detour in place. The fixed completion date for this project is April 25, 2015.

Plantation Forest Drive
Construction will continue with single-lane closures through April 2015.

King George County
Route 218 @ Machodoc Creek
Construction is underway on the Machodoc Creek bridge replacement project. Traffic on the bridge has been reduced to one lane. Temporary traffic signals at each approach to the bridge control traffic crossing the bridge. The signals will remain in place through July 2015. Motorists can expect an additional 5-10 minutes to cross the bridge during peak travel times on weekday mornings and afternoons. In addition, a 10 foot lane width restriction for vehicles is in place.

Caroline County

Routine Maintenance Activities
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 1 – shoulder maintenance
Route 716 – tree trimming
