Organizations that serve the Fredericksburg region are using the national “Week of the Young Child” to promote their programs and services.
Bev Abrams, Germanna Community College assistant professor in Early Childhood Development and board member with Smart Beginnings, Brandi Williams, coordinator of the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board Parent Education Infant Development (PE-ID) Program, and Librarian Rebecca Purdy, Youth Services Coordinator at Central Rappahannock Regional Library, were guests April 13 on “Town Talk,” the local morning show on WFVA 1230 AM Radio.

“Brain development between birth and age five is the most active, and has lifelong effects,” said Bev Abrams. The programs and services the groups provide focus on educating caregivers to maximize learning opportunities in the early years.

Caregivers with babies and young children will be able to meet with library staff, area non-profits and companies that will share information and samples of products and services. Activities include free car seat safety checks by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, face painting, teddy bear check-ups, 3-D printer demonstration and costumed character photo opportunities. The March of Dimes’ “March for Babies” will also be held, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Call 540-498-4000 for more information.
