Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Fredericksburg line trains will run late May 11 through May 28, due to construction.

“CSX Transportation (CSXT) will be performing railroad track and switch upgrades south of the Fredericksburg Station beginning May 11,” said Bryan Jungwirth, VRE director of Public Affairs & Government Relations. Construction will affect both northbound and southbound VRE trains. Trains could be delayed 30 – 45 minutes from May 11 – 21, and 10 – 20 minutes from May 22 – 28.

“Once complete, capacity, speed and reliability of VRE trains will be improved and delays reduced as trains will be able to switch between four tracks,” Jungwirth said. The project is a component of upgrading rail service in Virginia by creating a new third track between Washington D.C. and Richmond, VA.

For more information, visit VRE.org, or email [email protected]. VRE will send out “TrainTalk” updates throughout the effected period, Jungwirth said. Sign up for “TrainTalk” updates at VRE.org.

VRE is the tenth largest commuter rail service in the U.S. and is a transportation partnership of the Northern Virginia and Potomac & Rappahannock Transportation Commissions.
