Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hot Spots for the Fredericksburg region August 2 – 8, 2015.

Special Travel Alert
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; crews will be inspecting signal structures at various intersections in Stafford and Spotsylvania. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays in the mobile work zone.

City of Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; traffic will be reduced to a single lane intermittently for road construction activities between Rappahannock Canal and Wicklow Drive. Motorists will be directed through the work zone by flaggers. Expect brief, periodic delays only when single lane closures are required to position equipment or materials. Construction work is associated with the Fall Hill Avenue widening project.

Under Construction
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal Bridge and Carl D. Silver Boulevard. The project is expected to be complete in January 2017.

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Bridge Inspections
(New) This week crews will be performing routine safety inspections on the following bridges over I-95 north and south. Crews will be working between 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day.

Monday – Tuesday
Structure located between mile marker 117 and 118. The right lane on I-95 south will be closed to traffic.
Thursday – Friday
Structure located between mile marker 120 and 121. The right lane will be closed to traffic on I-95 north and south.
Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road

(New) Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.; motorists should expect delays on Route 1 southbound at Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road). Crews will be installing a water main under the pavement at the intersection. This work is in connection with the Route 1/Route 606 Intersection Improvement Project.

Line Painting Operation
This week crews will begin line painting on various secondary routes in the vicinity of Route 3, Route 2 and Route 208 then moving to areas in the vicinity of Route 612 and Route 621. When approaching this mobile work zone motorists should be alert to slow moving vehicles; expect delays; and avoid passing in the work zone. Passing in the work zone may cause tracking of the freshly painted lines and the wet paint may adhere to the vehicle. Line painting will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday- Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 3 (Plank Road) – mowing
Route 17 (Mills Drive) – brush cutting
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – mowing and shoulder work
Route 610 (Ely’s Ford Road) – mowing
Route 615 (Rapidan Drive) – mowing
Route 616 (U.S. Ford Road) – mowing
Route 610 (Old Plank Road) – mowing
Route 674 (Chancellor Road) – sweeping

Under Construction
Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express train station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 North
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.; motorists should expect single or double lane closures and travel delays on the northbound side of I-95 between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Rt. 630/Stafford). Crews will be milling and paving in this area.

McWhirt Loop
(Update) Monday -Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.; McWhirt Loop will be closed to all traffic between Route 17 and the CVS entrance. Crews will be paving the road. This work is in connection with the Route 17 Widening Project.

Commerce Parkway
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; flagging crews will direct traffic on Commerce Parkway between Route 17 and Trade Street for paving work. Commerce Parkway will remain open throughout the work, but motorists should stay alert for workers, equipment, and direction from the flagging crews. This work is in connection with the Route 17 Widening Project.

Primmer House Road at Leeland Road
(New) The new traffic signal located at Primmer House Road and Leeland Road has been activated and is operating in the flashing mode. The signal will become fully operational on Tuesday. Motorists should be alert the new traffic pattern at this intersection.

Arkendale Drive at CSX Crossing
(New) Monday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; crews will be raising the grade at the CSX crossing located at the intersection of Arkendale Drive and Brent Point Road. Motorists will be periodically restricted to one lane at the crossing.

Line Painting Operation
Crews will continue line painting on various secondary routes located in the vicinity of Route 1, Route 17 and Route 218. When approaching this mobile work zone motorists should be alert to slow moving vehicles; expect delays; and avoid passing in the work zone. Passing in the work zone may cause tracking of the freshly painted lines and the wet paint may adhere to the vehicle. Line painting will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

Route 1 at Truslow Road
Monday – Thursday; motorists should be alert to construction activity at the intersection of Truslow Road and Route 1. The intersection will remain open, but motorists should expect intermittent lane closures, and follow the direction of flagging crews.

Truslow Road
(New) Monday – Friday; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Truslow Road between Lyons Blvd. and Wallace Farms Lane. Crews will be installing a waterline in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 218 (White Oak Road) – mowing
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) – clearing vegetation from concrete islands (11 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
Route 607 (Butler Road) – mowing
Route 612 (Hartwood Road) – mowing
Route 612 (Crop Road) – mowing
Route 660 (George Mason Road) – mowing
Route 638 (Little Forest Road) – mowing
Route 687 (Hope Road) – mowing
Route 752 (Richards Ferry Road) – mowing
Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) – ditching
Route 1251 (Amherst Avenue) – ditching
Route 1120 (Oak Grove Drive) – ditching
Route 1545 (Spring Lake Drive) – concrete work

Under Construction
Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218)
Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Butler Road and Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Project completion date is September 2015.

Caroline County
Route 207 (North)
(Update) Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; crews will be applying surface treatment on the northbound side of Route 207 from the north end of the Polecat Creek Bridge to the south end of the Mattaponi River Bridge. Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone:

King George County
Route 218
(Update) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; crews continue tree trimming work on the eastbound side of Route 218. Motorists should expect brief delays between Route 609 (Comron Road) and Salisbury Retreat.

Under Construction
Route 218 at Machodoc Creek
Construction is underway on the Machodoc Creek bridge replacement project. Traffic on the bridge has been reduced to one lane. Temporary traffic signals at each approach to the bridge control traffic crossing the bridge. The signals will remain in place through July 2015. Motorists can expect an additional 5-10 minutes to cross the bridge during peak travel times on weekday mornings and afternoons. In addition, a 10 foot lane width restriction for vehicles is in place.
