Good Turn Earth Company, a local green startup, is hosting a party to launch their crowd-funding campaign from 7 – 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. The event will be held at The Sunken Well Tavern, 720 Littlepage St., Fredericksburg. There will be free snacks, a cash bar with happy hour pricing, product demonstration, giveaways and an opportunity to fund the campaign on the spot.

“Good Turn Earth Company is changing the landscape in Fredericksburg – literally,” said owner Sarah Perry. “Our local startup is committed to rescuing green waste from the landfill and transforming it into a living, breathing soil conditioner that produces strong and healthy plants.” With local partners including Wegmans, 25 30 Espresso, Earth Mother Mushrooms and Fredericksburg City Public Works, Good Turn Earth Company produces a premium organic soil conditioner composed of city leaves, coffee grounds, out-of-date produce, mushroom compost and worm castings. It will be sold in downtown Fredericksburg at the Farmer’s Market and Roxbury Farm and Garden Center and in Spotsylvania at Harvest Market and Courtland Ace Hardware.

The crowd-funding campaign will run March 9 – April 22, with a goal to raise $11,500. The funds will be used for start-up expenses, including essential tools and equipment, packaging, business and legal fees, and the first run of composting buckets, Perry said.

Good Turn Earth Company, formerly Living Soil, was a 2014 Startup Weekend Fredericksburg and Made in FredVA finalist. The company was featured on “foodtank” at “A Startup Weekend Success Plans to Employ the Neighborhood and Feed the City.”
