Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts August 9 – 13

Virginia Department of Transportation hot spots for the Fredericksburg region, August 9 – 15, 2015.

City of Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane intermittently for road construction activities between Rappahannock Canal and Wicklow Drive. Motorists will be directed through the work zone by flaggers. Expect brief, periodic delays only when single lane closures are required to position equipment or materials. Construction work is associated with the Fall Hill Avenue widening project.

Under Construction
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal Bridge and Carl D. Silver Boulevard. The project is expected to be complete in January 2017.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road
Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Motorists should expect delays on Route 1 southbound at Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road). Crews will be installing a water main under the pavement at the intersection. Also, flagging crews will direct traffic on Route 606. This work is in connection with the Route 1/Route 606 intersection improvement project.

Line Painting Operation
This week, crews will continue line painting on various secondary routes in the vicinity of Route 2, Route 3 and Route 208, then moving to areas in the vicinity of Route 612 and Route 621. When approaching this mobile work zone, motorists should be alert to slow moving vehicles, expect delays, and avoid passing in the work zone. Passing in the work zone may cause tracking of the freshly painted lines, and the wet paint may adhere to a vehicle. Line painting will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday- Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 3 (Plank Road) near Route 610 – pipe repair
Route 636 (Mine Road) – mowing
Route 674 (Chancellor Road) – pipe repair
Route 1158 (Copp Drive) – drainage work
Route 1474 (Griffith Way) – drainage work
Route 1651 (Cobblestone Drive) – drainage work

Under Construction
Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express train station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 North
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Motorists should expect single or double lane closures and travel delays on northbound I-95 between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Rt. 630/Stafford). Crews will be milling and paving in this area.

Route 1 at Truslow Road
Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday, and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Tuesday morning. Motorists should be alert to construction activity at the intersection of Route 1 and Truslow Road. The intersection will remain open, but motorists should expect intermittent lane closures for paving and line striping, and follow the direction of flagging crews.

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 1 – drainage work
Route 3 (Kings Highway) – shoulder work
Route 218 (White Oak Road) – mowing
Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) – mowing
Route 607 (Deacon Road) – mowing
Route 608 (Brooke Road) – drainage work
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) – mowing
Route 612 (Hartwood Road) – mowing
Route 614 (Cropp Road) – mowing
Route 633 (Arkendale Road) – patching (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road) – mowing
Route 1209 (Choptank Road) – mowing

Under Construction
Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218)
Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Butler Road and Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Project completion date is September 2015.

Caroline County
Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 30 (Dawn Boulevard) − patching
Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) – patching
Route 600 (Frog Level Road) – patching

King George County
Route 218
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews continue tree trimming work on the eastbound side of Route 218. Motorists should expect brief delays between Route 609 (Comorn Road) and Salisbury Retreat.

Under Construction
Route 218 at Machodoc Creek
Construction is underway on the Machodoc Creek bridge replacement project. Traffic on the bridge has been reduced to one lane. Temporary traffic signals at each bridge approach control traffic. Motorists can expect an additional 5-10 minutes to cross the bridge during peak travel times on weekday mornings and afternoons. In addition, a 10 foot lane width restriction for vehicles is in place.
