University of Mary Washington (UMW) Professor of Psychology Dr. Chris Kilmartin is bringing his one-man show back to the stage as a fundraiser for the Grace Mann Fund.

Kilmartin will perform “Crimes Against Nature” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the University of Mary Washington’s Dodd Auditorium, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg. The event is free, with a suggested donation towards the Grace Mann Fund of $5 for students, $10 for non-students.

Kilmartin had served on UMW’s sexual assault task force with Grace Mann. The 20-year-old UMW student was killed April 17, 2015, in the Fredericksburg home she and two female roommates shared with the man accused in her death.

“The fund honors the memory of Grace by helping us to end sexual violence in our community,” said the Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault (RCASA) Executive Director Mark Blackwell. Grace’s parents, Melissa and Thomas Mann, began the fund following her death, Blackwell said. “Grace’s parents have generously agreed to match every dollar raised up to $5,000.”

The professor who was once a professional stand-up comedian said he wrote “Crimes Against Nature” as an integration of his scholarly and performing interests. Kilmartin debuted his play in March 1998 and toured to more than 200 campuses and other venues before retiring the performance in 2004. “Crimes Against Nature” “hilariously breaks down gender stereotypes and tackles the absurdities and contradictions of growing male in America.”

Kilmartin received a Ph.D. (1988) and M.S. (1986) in counseling psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a licensed clinical psychologist. His major scholarly work is “The Masculine Self,” and his many published works include “Violence Is a Men’s issue” in The Good Men Project magazine (2010).
