Fredericksburg Region Traffic Hot Spots October 11 – 17

Traffic hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline for October 11 – 17, 2015.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95 Northbound, Route 3 On-Ramp
(New) Tuesday-Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. Beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday until 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the I-95 northbound on-ramp from eastbound Route 3 will be closed to traffic for paving.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday-Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will resume milling and paving work on I-95 northbound between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford). One lane will close at 9 p.m. and two lanes will close from 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Interstate 95 Northbound, Exit 133 Exit Ramp
(New) Wednesday, 9 a.m. – noon. Crews will repair the pavement at the end of the I-95 northbound exit ramp to Route 17 northbound. The ramp will remain open. Ramp traffic will be directed around the work zone using the merge lane on Route 17 northbound. One lane of Route 17 northbound will be closed. Law enforcement officials will provide traffic control in the work zone.

Interstate 95 Northbound, Exit 140 Exit Ramp
(New) Beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 until 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, the I-95 northbound exit ramp at Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford) will be closed to traffic for paving. Motorists should use Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) or Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) as alternate exits.

Route 17 Northbound
(New) Sunday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Traffic will be shifted slightly to the right on Route 17 northbound near Celebrate Virginia Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone. This traffic shift is in connection with the Route 17 Widening project.

Route 1 at Truslow Road
(New) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Route 1 southbound will be reduced to one lane, and the right turn lane on southbound Route 1 to Truslow Road will be closed. This work is part of an intersection improvement project to build additional turn lanes.

Route 608 (Brooke Road)
(Update) Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue paving Route 608 between Route 685 (Thorny Point Road) and Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road). Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 656 (Greenbank Road)
(Update) Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Motorists should expect brief delays on Greenbank Road between Banks Ford Parkway and the dead end. Crews are repairing the pavement in this area.

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed in December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Sunday-Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Crews continue milling and paving I-95 southbound between Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania) and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg). Each night one lane will be closed at 9 p.m. and two lanes will close beginning at 10 p.m.

Route 2 (Tidewater Trail)
(New) Saturday-Sunday. Spotsylvania County will repair a railroad crossing on Route 2 between Bend Farm Road and Lee Hill Drive/Joseph Mills Drive. Weather permitting, lane closures and complete road closures are planned on the following schedule:
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 – One lane closed. Flagging crew directs traffic.
9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 – Road closed. Traffic will follow posted detour route.
5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday – One lane closed. Flagging crew directs traffic.

Under Construction: Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express train station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

King George County
Route 218 (White Oak Road)
(Update) Sunday-Friday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 218 eastbound and westbound between the King George County line and Route 610 (Indiantown Road). Crews are milling and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Caroline County
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
(Update) Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is closed to through traffic. Crews are replacing a bridge approximately 1.1 miles from Route 647. Motorists should follow posted detour signs. The project is expected to be complete in approximately 7 weeks.
