VDOT hot spots for the Fredericksburg region October 18 – 24, 2015.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95 Northbound and Southbound
(New) Thursday-Friday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m.; Two northbound I-95 lanes will be closed near mile marker 131 at the Fall Hill Avenue overpass from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday morning. Two southbound I-95 lanes will be closed at the overpass from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday. Crews will be pouring concrete for the bridge deck on the new overpass. If inclement weather cancels this pouring, work will be postponed to the evening of Monday, Oct. 26 into early Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Route 1
(New) Friday, 9 a.m. – noon; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 1 northbound at Mary Washington Blvd. Crews will be performing signal test bores in this area.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Sunday-Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.; Crews will be paving and line striping on I-95 northbound between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford). One lane will close at 9 p.m. and two lanes will close from 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Crews will be inspecting the I-95 bridge over the Rappahannock River located just south of Exit 133 (Rt. 17/Falmouth). A single lane closure will be in place on I-95 northbound and southbound.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 140 Exit Ramp
(Update) Beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 until 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, the I-95 northbound exit ramp at Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford) will be closed to traffic for paving. Motorists should use Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) or Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) as alternates.

Route 218 Bridge over CSX
(New) Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane in each direction on the Route 218 Bridge over the CSX railroad. Crews will be inspecting the structure.

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed in December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Southbound
(Update) Sunday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.; Crews continue milling and paving I-95 southbound between Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania) and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg). One lane will be closed at 9 p.m. and two lanes will be closed beginning at 10 p.m.

On Monday 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. crews will resume milling and paving in the same location. A single lane closure will be in place in the work zone. This work will continue during the day time hours through Wednesday.

Interstate 95 Bridge over Route 1 at Massaponax
(New) Monday, 10 p.m. – 8 a.m.; Crews will be performing joint repairs on the I-95 southbound bridge over Route 1 at Massaponax. The left lane will be closed at 8 p.m. Two lanes will be closed in the work zone from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. and then one lane will remain closed until 8 a.m.

Route 606 Bridge over I-95 at Thornburg
(New) Sunday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on the Route 606 bridge over I-95 at Thornburg. Crews will be repairing bridge joints. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Under Construction: Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express train station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

King George County
Route 218 (White Oak Road)
(Update) Crews will continue milling, paving and line striping at two locations on Route 218 this week. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in each work zone:
Sunday – Friday (6 p.m. – 6 a.m.)

Route 218 – from the King George County line to Route 610 (Indiantown Road)
Monday – Wednesday (7 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Route 218 – from the King George County line to Route 610 (Indiantown Road)
Friday – Saturday (7 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Route 218 – from Route 609 Comorn Road and Route 610 (Indiantown Road)

Caroline County
Route 609 (Woodslane Road)
(New) At approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, October 23 CSX will close Route 609 (Woodslane Road) at the rail crossing for planned repairs. The road will be closed to all traffic through Wednesday, October 28. This will be a 24-hour closure. Motorists should use the most convenient alternate route.

Under Construction: (New) Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is closed to through traffic. Crews are replacing a bridge approximately 1.1 miles from Route 647. Motorists should follow posted detour signs. The project is expected to be complete in approximately 6 weeks.
