Fredericksburg Seeks Director of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities

The City of Fredericksburg is accepting applications for the position of Director of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities. Robert Antozzi will have served in the position for 29 years when he retires on August 31, 2015. Antozzi moved to Fredericksburg in August 1986 to accept the position, and is staying in Fredericksburg upon retirement. “Our kids were born and raised here, and we consider this our home,” he said.

Applicant Required Education and Experience

“The position [Director of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities] requires a Master’s degree in leisure service management, recreation or a related field from anaccredited college or university and six to nine years of progressively responsible experience managing recreational programs, facilities and parks in a comparably sized organization along with one to two years of concentrated experience in construction and/or facilities management; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully to manage a complex and highly visible department.

“Qualified candidates will be dynamic leaders who demonstrate a passion for development and maintenance of high quality parks and recreation and facilities maintenance programs and who convey a
clear vision and direction that builds on the quality of Department staff, volunteers and existing facilities.

“The successful candidates must have experience managing a comparably sized organization, working within established budget parameters and developing alternative revenue sources and a background in community center programming and parks and recreational space management. Experience in electronic social networking and marketing is a plus. Must have strong writing, verbal and presentation skills and be comfortable working in a high profile public position.”

Other Details

The salary for the position is negotiable within a range of $78,957 to $113,828, based on qualifications and experience.
