I-95 Southbound Lane Closures at Fredericksburg January 19 – 20

by | Jan 19, 2016 | Traffic

From the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)

During the overnight hours on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Wednesday, Jan. 20, motorists will be restricted to one lane on Interstate 95 southbound at mile marker 131 just north of Exit 130 — Route 3/Fredericksburg.

One lane will be closed at 9:30 p.m., followed by a second lane at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open by 5 a.m.

In addition, the entrance and exit ramp to the Fredericksburg Safety Rest Area and Welcome Center located at mile marker 131 will be narrowed from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The facility will remain open.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be installing a containment system under the Fall Hill Avenue bridge in preparation for the bridge demolition phase of the project. The containment system will shield the interstate from any loose debris during the demolition.

The old Fall Hill Avenue bridge will be demolished after traffic is switched to the new bridge. The traffic switch is expected to take place in February, weather permitting.

This work is in connection with the Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Bridge Replacement Project. For more information about this project visit the project webpage.
