Traffic hot spots in the Fredericksburg region (Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and Westmoreland) for February 28 – March 5, 2016.

Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue I-95 Overpass
(New) Monday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Traffic will shifted onto the completed half of the new Interstate 95 overpass on Fall Hill Avenue. At around 10 a.m. Monday, eastbound traffic will be stopped for an estimated 10 minutes and moved onto the new bridge. At approximately 1 p.m. Monday, westbound traffic will be stopped for an estimated 10 minutes and moved onto the bridge.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue Widening Project site. Flaggers will direct motorist through the work zone.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. -3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

City of Fredericksburg Work Crews
Watch for paving-related road closures and detours 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29, through Friday, March 4, on Elm Strett and on Herndon and Germania Streets between Caroline and Princess Anne. Expect traffic congestion. Use caution, and follow all posted detours.

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Southbound
(Update) Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Left lane closure on Interstate 95 southbound between Exit 148/Quantico Marine Corps Base and just south of Exit 140/Courthouse Road. Crews will be doing geotechnical drilling in connection with the 95 Express Lanes southern terminus extension project.

Route 17
(New) Monday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Traffic on Route 17 southbound at International Drive/Celebrate Virginia will be temporarily shifted to the right at the intersection to just north of the intersection. Two travel lanes will be maintained at all times. The slight traffic shift is needed for placement of concrete curbing in the median.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed on eastbound Route 610 at Onville Road. Crews will be placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project.

Under Construction: Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 3
(New) Monday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect delays on Route 3 eastbound in the vicinity of Taskforce Drive. Crews will be line striping and placing pavement markings in this area. Motorists should avoid passing the slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.

Under Construction:
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Caroline County
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. The bridge replacement project is near completion. The final paving is expected to take place in the spring.

Westmoreland County
Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Route 631 (Longfield Road). The project is expected to be complete by July 1, 2016.
