At last count — January 2016 — there are 927 homeless youth in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George.

“These are kids who live with their family in hotels and motels, in shelters, in cars and who “double-up,” moving from friend to friend,” said Ritta Armstead, president of U4C Victory Ministry.

During school breaks and holidays, these children don’t receive the food provided by school programs, she said. The Spring Break Food Drive collects food items and works with area agencies to distribute the food to young people in need.
