VDOT hot spots for the Fredericksburg region March 14 – 19, 2016.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95
(Update) This week crews will begin demolition work at the Fall Hill Avenue overpass in Fredericksburg. Demolition of the overpass will impact traffic on I-95 northbound and southbound during the overnight hours. Lane closures have been scheduled at the following times and dates:

Sunday, March 13
Interstate 95 northbound – Two lanes closed 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Monday, March 14
Interstate 95 northbound – Two lanes closed 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Tuesday, March 15
Interstate 95 northbound – Two lanes closed 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Wednesday, March 16 Update: Full stops have been postponed until March 17.
Interstate 95 northbound – Two lanes closed 9 p.m. – midnight. Full interstate closure for intermittent 30-minute intervals between midnight and 3 a.m. to remove bridge beams. Traffic will be released between closures. Followed by two lanes closed 3 a.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Thursday, March 17
Interstate 95 northbound – Two lanes closed 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue widening project site. Flaggers will direct motorist through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Under Construction:
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
(Update) Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed on eastbound Route 610 at Onville Road. Crews will be placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project.

Route 608 (Brooke Road)
(New) At 8 p.m. on Wednesday crews will begin work to replace a drainage pipe on Route 608 (Brooke Road) near Marlborough Point Road. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Work is expected to be complete Thursday morning. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
· Crow’s Nest – road work

Under Construction:
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road
(Update) Crews will be paving on Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road and also paving on Mudd Tavern Road. This work is in connection with the Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road) intersection improvement project. The following lane closures are planned:

Monday – one lane will be closed on Route 1 southbound from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Tuesday – one lane will be closed on Mudd Tavern Road from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
· Route 1765 (Stone Wall Lane) – pipe replacement

Under Construction:
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Caroline County
Route 601 (Penola Road)
(New) At 7 a.m. on Monday CSX will close Route 601 (Penola Road) so crews can install new timber at a railroad crossing. Penola Road will remain closed until Friday evening. Signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommended detour route:
· Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)
· Route 656 (Dry Bridge Road)
· Route 655 (McBryant Road)
· Route 654 (Moores Mill Road)

Route 17
(Update) Tuesday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Crews will be patching on Route 17 southbound just south of Port Royal in preparation for upcoming paving work. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:

Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) – tree trimming
Route 625 (Passing Road) – tree trimming
Route 766 (Burma Road) – ditching
Route 609 (Macedonia Road) – ditching
Route 674 (Burnett Road) – ditching
Route 652 (Cool Water Road) – ditching

Under Construction:
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. Final paving will occur in the spring.

Westmoreland County
Under Construction:
Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. The project is expected to be complete by July 1, 2016.
