The Saturday Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market at Hurkamp Park, Prince Edward and George Streets, officially opens for the season on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Hours are 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The majority of the vendors will be present this starting Saturday; the remainder will follow when the locally grown and harvested products are ready to harvest. The market has had a small amount of local produce and lots of bedding plants the past couple of weeks. These will increase as the weather gets warmer.

At present, there have been 26 vendors approved. We are still receiving applications. Approved products include fresh produce, meats, seafood, cheese, coffee, various bakery items, frozen dumplings, macaroons, various ornamental and edible plants, kettle corn, lemonade and honey.

We plan to have Prince Edward Street closed to through traffic every Saturday, except June 4 and October 1. Closures will begin about 5 a.m., and the street will re-open at about 3 p.m. There are other events with other road closures in the downtown are on June 4 and October 1 that require Prince Edward Street be kept open.

On the first and third Saturdays beginning in May, the market will host Art in the Park, with artists and crafters offering locally made items. In the past, these have included books by a local author, handmade sewn and knitted accessories, soaps, bird feeders, various items made from re-purposed products, decorated gourds, art and photography, and jewelry. Presently, we have 10 approved participants who have indicated they will begin with the May event. We expect this number to rise as we get closer to the start for this event.

The Mayfield Market will open on the first or second Thursday in May. The opening is dependent on the weather and produce being available. It will be set up at the corner of Dixon and Tyler Streets, in the lot across from Grace Redemption Church, 203 Tyler St, Fredericksburg. We will have one vendor offering produce. They may add other items as the season matures.
