RAAI’s Annual Plant Sale and Mayfest Celebration

Rappahannock Adult Activities (RAAI), a program of Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB), will hold its annual spring plant sale from April 30 through May 14, 2016.

Plants will also be on sale during their 30th Annual Mayfest Celebration from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

The plant sale and Mayfest are held at 750 Kings Hwy., about three miles east of Chatham Bridge in Stafford,

Plant sale hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 – 4 p.m. Sundays.

In addition to annuals, RAAI participants grow a large selection of vegetables, herbs, and annuals, and prepare hanging baskets and planters or sale.

“Mayfest is RAAI’s annual fundraiser and a day of celebration for RAAI participants, their families, and the community,” said Michelle Wagaman, RAAI prevention and public information coordinator. “It’s a day of family fun with live entertainment, plant sales, raffle prizes, silent auction, moon bounce, bake sale, food, and most importantly support of adults with intellectual disabilities.”

The day begins with breakfast served by RACSB Support Coordinators rom 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Live entertainment includes performances by:
The Riverbend Bell Ensemble – 10 a.m.
The Voices – 10:30 a.m.
Singer Bob Williams – 11:30 a.m.
Grateful Dads – 12:30 p.m.
The Sounds of Silent with Becky Bennett – 2 p.m.

There will also be several puppet shows performed by Rappahannock Area Kids on the Block.

New to Mayfest this year is the Master Gardner Speaker Series:
10 a.m. – Container Gardening and Herbs with Laurie Clarkston
11 a.m. – Succulents and Living Wreaths with Dee King
12 p.m. – Butterfly Gardens with Laurie Clarkston
1 p.m. – Organic Vegetable Gardens with Simone Thompson
2 p.m. – Composting with Worms with Kelly Gaske

Local artists will be on site, selling pottery, jewelry, and fabrics. There will be a silent auction, and a raffle with a $500 grand prize. View a list of the silent auction items online at Mayfest Silent Auction.

All proceeds provide scholarships to allow participants without funding the opportunity to attend RAAI.

Rappahannock Adult Activities, Inc. is a community-based developmental day program that promotes dignity, independence, individualization, inclusion, and productivity of people with intellectual disabilities in their home communities. For more than 40 years, RAAI day support services have helped to keep individuals out of institutional settings and allow caregivers respite from care responsibilities. They currently serve more than 170 individuals at their seven locations in the City of Fredericksburg and counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.

RAAI is a program of Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) and is a partner agency of the Rappahannock United Way (CFC #75505, CVC #6419, and LGC #6419).

Rappahannock Adult Activities is participating in The Community Give on May 3, 2016 organized by The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region.
