“For a person with a disability, finding the right resources and services to support an integrated and independent life in the community is not always easy,” said Kimberly Lett, program coordinator and deputy director of disAbility Resource Center. “But in the Fredericksburg region, people can find the help they need to live as independently as possible at the disAbility Resource Center of the Rappahannock Area (dRC).”

dRC is holding a community open house from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 409 Progress St. in Fredericksburg. “The Open House will feature a celebration of the American with Disabilities Act, a display depicting the disability civil rights movement, information on voting rights for people with disabilities, disability awareness activities, and refreshments including BBQ. To ensure there is food for all, please RSVP at dRC Summer 2016 Open House.

Now in its 23rd year, The disAbility Resource Center is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) serving people with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and community members.

Centers for Independent Living, including the dRC, provide peer support, information and referral, individual and systems advocacy, independent living skills training, and other community supports and services. The mission is to assist people with disabilities to achieve their highest potential and the benefit of independent living.

dRC serves Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George. Deaf and hard of hearing services and social security benefits counseling are provided in some neighboring counties in the Northern Neck and in Culpeper, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock counties.
