The City of Fredericksburg has experienced the failure of a storm water pipe on the west side of Jefferson Davis Highway/US Route 1, approximately 800 feet south of Kings Mill Drive — just south of the Virginia Central Railway Trail crossing of Route 1.
The affected area is close enough to Route 1 that the outside southbound lane has been closed as a precaution, and to permit working room to perform the necessary repair.
The lane closure will likely remain in effect 24/7 through Friday, July 1, 2016, and perhaps longer. Motorists are urged to use extra care driving through the work zone and to consider alternate routes, especially during the afternoon/early evening rush period.
