Stafford Announces Major Donors for Armed Services Memorial

by | Jul 4, 2016 | Government

Stafford’s Armed Services Memorial Commission and Working Group announced two major donors are helping to fund construction of the county’s Armed Services Memorial.

Larry D. Silver and the Silver Companies earned “Founder” status with a donation of $100,000. Silver honors both his grandfathers and his father, Carl D. Silver, who earned both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart in World War II. The donation provides sponsorship of the granite Memorial Wall, which will be etched with figures of armed service members and will serve as a focal point of the memorial.

Atlantic Builders donated $25,000 to earn “Commander” status. Their donation will sponsor the flagpole that is featured prominently in the memorial’s design.

“Thanks to these donations, an appropriation of $225,000 from the Board of Supervisors, and other donations from the community, we have already surpassed $483,275 towards our $675,000 goal,” said said Daniel Chichester, chairman of the Armed Services Memorial Working Group.

The $675,000 memorial will be built behind the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center. It will honor the fallen, those who have served, and those who are currently serving.
