Fredericksburg’s Joe Wilson has been appointed to the 24-member Virginia Growth and Opportunity Board. He will serve a two-year term.

The Growth and Opportunity Board oversees the “Virginia Initiative for Growth and Opportunity in Each Region,” or GO Virginia, the bipartisan initiative passed by the Virginia House of Delegates in 2016. The goal is “to restore Virginia’s position of economic leadership by growing and diversifying the state’s economy” through collaboration between business leaders, the education community, local government and state government through regional boards.

“I’m anxious to see how this will tie together with the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance,” Wilson said.

Wilson currently serves on the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority, and as chairman of the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation. He served on Fredericksburg City Council from 2000 – 2004. He also served on the University of Mary Washington Board of Visitors, and on the boards of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Mary Washington Healthcare, the Salvation Army, and Germanna Community College.

Wilson, CEO of PermaTreat, celebrated his 50th year in pest control on June 5, 2015. He began his career in 1965 working for Orkin.
