Gail Parker (I), Matt Rowe (D), and Incumbent Rob Wittman (R), are running for Virginia’s 1st District U.S. House of Representatives seat in the November, 8, 2016, general election.

In advance of the debate at the University of Mary Washington on October 24, Fredericksburg.Today invited each candidate to respond to a brief candidate questionnaire.

Virginia’s 1st Congressional District Candidate Questionnaire: Matt Rowe

Virginia’s 1st Congressional District Candidate Questionnaire: Rob Wittman

Following are the complete and unedited answers provided by Gail Parker.

1 – Traffic is a big concern for constituents in the 1st district. What do you propose to do to improve this problem?
Folks have told me they want VRE trains during the day and every weekend. A third track will mean higher on-time rates and enable track maintenance on the other two tracks with fewer delays. Rail is the positive solution to traffic, pollution, safer travel, growing the economy and safer commute in Virginia wine country. For every dollar invested in Rail $25.00 is returned to the community.

2 – What is your stand on immigration reform?
The two legacy parties have turned a blind eye to 12 million illegals for about 15 years now. Taking 15 million experienced workers out of the workforce now would likely harm our still fragile economy recovery. I could support a humane path to citizenship that keeps families together.

3 – The region is home to many veterans. If elected, what would you do for veterans?
I am a Veteran. The best thing that we can do for Veterans is to avoid Wars for Oil. Rail and renewable energy on a massive scale can reduce the dependency on depleting fossil fuel. Roads increase dependency, consumption and air and water pollution! There is new technology: high speed rail and renewable energy… Yet the two legacy parties encourage the building of deadly, polluting roads with Federal tax payer funds over mass transit. For the health of our Nation and our population we need to change that.

4 – What would you do to work toward improving bipartisan respect and alleviating gridlock in Congress?
I support an enforceable code of ethics for Congress.
