The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) recently honored two volunteers.

“Each year RACSB recognizes volunteers who have shown an extraordinary commitment to serving others who have behavioral health needs or developmental disabilities,” said

Susan Calhoun-Sousie received the 2015 Distinguished Behavioral Health Volunteer Award. Calhoun-Sousie, a peer support specialist and support group facilitator with Recovery in Motion, created behavioral health support groups for Spanish speakers, writing workshops and a sewing circle. “Susan’s outgoing personality, coupled with her skill as a peer support specialist, are a huge asset in her work at Recovery in Motion,” her nomination stated.

Susan Hartsook received the 2015 Distinguished Developmental Disability Volunteer Award. Hartsook, a Spotsylvania resident who works as vice president and marketing manager with Union Bank & Trust, has served on the Rappahannock Adult Activities Inc. (RAII) Board of Directors for three years. She devotes her time, talents, and resources toward helping adults with developmental disabilities through the day support program. Hartsook received two nominations for the award; one noting that she “is a strong advocate at social events, and educates the public about the RAAI mission and vision.”

The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) provides public mental health, developmental disability, substance abuse, and prevention/early intervention services to the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.
