The Stafford County School Board is examining options, including redistricting, to address increasing current and projected enrollment.
Colonial Forge is currently under consideration for redistricting in 2017-18, due to overcrowding. Mountain View High School and North Stafford High School would be the receiving schools.
The board will hold an information session to seek community input on high school redistricting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Colonial Forge High School, 550 Courthouse Rd. in Stafford. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will take place on January 30.
“The meeting is designed to provide information about the current and expected growth in our school community, and to allow an opportunity for all citizens to engage in a collaborative process to identify possible solutions,” said Stafford County School Board Chair Holly Hazard.
“I would encourage all community members, not just parents of high school students, to attend and get involved,” she said. “This session is designed to be a hands on opportunity to craft solutions based on the projected and current enrollment figures.”
The redistricting of The Manors at England Run from Margaret Brent Elementary to Falmouth Elementary School, and England Run Pointe from Ferry Farm Elementary to Falmouth Elementary School is also under consideration. An initial meeting was held December 20. Decisions will be discussed at a March 2017 public hearing.
“It’s important for the school division to be efficient good stewards when it comes to redistricting,” said Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. W. Bruce Benson. “We want to use our resources in an efficient manner, and we have to do something different to make good use of space.”
