Valentine’s Day is known for gifts of candy, cards, and flowers. While a bouquet of cut flowers is a wonderful expression of love and appreciation, I suggest giving a lasting gift of a flowering plant.

It occurred to me that a Valentine garden might be an interesting take on a theme garden. Below is a list of what I think of when it comes to flowers of the heart.

So, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…with these flowering plants that can grow a garden of perennial love.

1 – Bleeding Heart: Compassion, Eternal Love

2 – Calla Lily: Faith, Beauty, Innocence

3 – Forget-Me-Nots: True Love, Remembrance

4 – Hydrangea: Heartfelt, Honest, Thankful

5 – Iris: Hope, Faith, Passion

6 – Holly: Domestic Happiness

7 – Lavender: Purity, Devotion, Calm

8 – Lilac: First Love, Innocence

9 – Lily: Passion, Fertility

10 – Lily of the Valley: Sweetness, Purity, Chastity
