Come see the children’s art and come and make your own! Sponsored by Fredericksburg Parks and Rec. The art show is free for children who have art in the show, and $6 for any walk-in children.

Virginia Horse Festival and Eighth Annual Secretariat Birthday Celebration
Friday and Saturday, March 24 and 25, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday, March 26, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Everything equine — clinics, demos, trade show, and entertainment.
Honoring Secretariat will be Otto Thorwarth, the professional jockey who played Ron Turcotte in the Secretariat movie; Charlie Davis, Secretariat’s entertaining exercise rider; and Kate Chenery Tweedy, daughter of Penny Chenery and co-author of the award-winning “Secretariat’s Meadow – The Land, The Family, The Legend,” with Leeanne Meadows Ladin.

Special Olympics Basketball Championships
Friday, March 24, 7:30 p.m. All-Star Friday Night Opening Ceremony at Colonial Forge High School, 550 Courthouse Rd., Stafford
Saturday, March 25, 8 a.m. – 5 pm. at nine local middle and high schools (click the hyperlink for the list).
More than 1,000 athletes with and without disabilities from across the Commonwealth will take to the courts in Stafford for the Special Olympics Virginia’s Basketball Championships. Volunteer to cheer! Come out for as little or as long as you can, to cheer the athletes.

The 28th Massachusetts Infantry (recreated) at Chatham Manor
Saturday, March 25, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Chatham Manor, 120 Chatham Ln, Fredericksburg, VA 22405
This free living history event will recall the intense activity that surrounded Chatham through the spring and summer of 1862, when Union troops occupied the ground. Demonstrations will include the basic manual of arms, marching in formation, essential maneuvers, and firing.

Stafford County Public Schools 41st Annual Fine Arts Festival
Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Brooke Point High School, 1700 Courthouse Rd., Stafford, VA 22554
Enjoy over 5,000 pieces of student artwork, ranging from pre-K to high school. More than 1,000 students will perform in a variety of ensembles throughout the weekend, including elementary choirs, high school jazz bands, drum ensembles, and theatre productions. Admission is free.

Friends of the Rappahannock Sixth Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival
Saturday, March 25, 1 to 5 p.m., at the University of Mary Washington, Dodd Auditorium, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg, VA
Festival tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. School students are free of charge, college students are free with an ID. Tickets may be purchased online at www.riverfriends.org

Big Red on the Big Screen
Saturday, March 25, 7 – 10 p.m. at Meadow Event Park, 13048 Meadow Farm Rd., Doswell, Va 23047
Enjoy the beloved Disney film “Secretariat” at his birthplace with members of the Secretariat team, who will share behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie and about Big Red himself. Popcorn and lemonade/tea included with admission. Also includes a silent auction. Tickets: $25 adult; $10 per child age 5-12; age 4 and under free.

Organ Concert
Sunday, March 26, 3 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401
Featuring GRAMMY winner Gail Archer. Free, with donations benefiting the organ fund.
