FREDERICKSBURG – The $14.9 million Virginia Department of Transportation project to build additional turn lanes and pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) in Stafford County is now complete.

Motorists now can use double left turn lanes on Route 610 eastbound to turn onto Onville Road, and triple left turn lanes on Onville Road to travel eastbound on Route 610, in the direction of Interstate 95.

As part of the project, pedestrian crossings were also installed on the north, west and south side of the intersection.

Extra lane capacity was added at the intersection to reduce congestion and prepare for additional traffic associated with jobs moving to Quantico Marine Corps Base as part of the Base Realingment and Closure Commission.

Construction began in December 2015. Project contractor J.L. Kent and Sons, Inc., of Fredericksburg, completed the project on time and on budget.

Approximately 44,000 vehicles a day travel through this intersection.

West of the intersection, Stafford County is widening Route 610 to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road.
