Construction will begin Monday, July 10 to rehabilitate a structurally deficient bridge on Route 647 (Blaydes Corner Road) in Spotsylvania County.

Blaydes Corner Road will be closed to through traffic at the bridge for approximately 4 weeks. The bridge is located less than a mile north of Route 605 (Marye Road), and nearly 3 miles south of Route 738 (Partlow Road).

VDOT recommends motorists use the following posted detour route during the project, which is 12.4 miles:

· Route 605 (Marye Road)

· Route 646 (Stanfield Road)

· Route 645 (Sunset Road)

· Route 606 (Morris Road)

· Route 738 (Partlow Road)

The existing bridge, built in 1968, is posted with a 17 ton weight limit for single unit vehicles and a 25 ton weight limit for tractor-trailers. When the bridge re-opens to traffic after the project, it will not have a posted weight limit.

VDOT crews will install new steel bridge beams and a timber deck, and will repair several key elements of the bridge’s substructure. After the bridge re-opens, new guardrail installation will be scheduled at the site.

An average of 360 vehicles a day cross the bridge, according to a VDOT traffic count.
