Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Aquia Creek at mile marker 145

The I-95 bridges over Aquia Creek are located just after Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) at mile marker 145.

  • I-95 Northbound:

o   Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

  • Expect a single, right lane closed.
  • I-95 Southbound:

o   Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. – 10 a.m.

  • Expect a single lane to be closed.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137

The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.

  • I-95 Southbound:

o   Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.

  • 9 p.m. – one lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • 4:30 a.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. the following morning except on Friday when all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Interstate 95 Southbound

(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗ 6 a.m. Expect a single, right lane to be closed on I-95 southbound near the Exit 140/Courthouse Road interchange. The lane will be closed from mile marker 141 to the 139. This will allow crews to work on the new temporary on-ramp to I-95 southbound from Courthouse Road. The lane will reopen each morning at 10 a.m. except on Friday when the lane will reopen at 6 a.m. Expect brief, overnight delays near the interchange.

I-95 Northbound

(New) Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m.  Expect alternating, single lane closures on the off- and on-ramps to I-95 northbound at the Exit 140 interchange. Crews will be paving and working on the temporary overhead traffic signals at the ramps to and from Courthouse Road. Crews will also be shifting traffic to the temporary northbound on- and off-ramps overnight. Flaggers and local law enforcement will assist drivers through the interchange. Be alert to the new traffic pattern. Expect possible delays with the work zone.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

(New) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and  Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working on the temporary overhead traffic signals at the I-95/Exit 140 interchange. Flaggers will direct one-way traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

(Update) Monday –  Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Winding Creek Road at Courthouse Road

(New) Monday – Thursday,  9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the interchange and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project 

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park shopping area.

Route 3 Eastbound

(New) Sunday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Route 3 eastbound near the Route 3/I-95 Interchange at Exit 130 for construction activities. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Route 3 Westbound

(New) Sunday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 9 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Route 3 westbound near the Route 3/I-95 Interchange at Exit 130 for construction activities. Expect brief, overnight delays.

(Update) Monday – Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. The right lane and shoulder will be closed on Route 3 westbound near the Route 3/I-95 Interchange at Exit 130 to Carl D. Silver Parkway for storm sewer installation.

Route 3 Westbound to I-95 Northbound

(New) Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.  Motorists should be alert to a slight traffic switch on the ramp to I-95 northbound from Route 3 westbound. All travel lanes and the on-ramp will remain open. The slight traffic shift is needed to push traffic to the west to the new ramp alignment. The ramp will be narrowed slightly. Be alert to crews and construction equipment along the shoulder.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 118

(New) Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Expect a single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at the interchange for construction activities. Expect brief delays.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road near the Exit 118 interchange for storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Interstate 95 Northbound from Mile Marker 129 to Mile Marker 149

Interstate 95 Northbound

(New) Sunday ˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. A single, right lane and shoulder on I-95 northbound will be closed overnight next week. Crews will begin at mile marker 129, which is just before Exit 130/Route 3 in Fredericksburg to make repairs to ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) equipment. This is a mobile work zone. Each evening, crews will close the right lane to work and move north ending at mile marker 149, north of Exit 148/Quantico. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Spotsylvania County Work Zone

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax

(Update) Monday ˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single lane on I-95 southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to continue repair work on the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. each day. A single lane will remain closed until 6 a.m. each day. Expect overnight delays.

Route 1 at I-95 Interchange (Exit 126)

(New) Monday ˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the traffic signals and on-ramps to Interstate 95 at Exit 126/Massaponax interchange. Lane closures are needed to allow crews to work underneath the I-95 bridges. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Route 3 (Plank Road)

(New) Sunday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating, double lane closures on Route 3 eastbound and westbound near Salem Church Road to Taskforce Drive for sewer line replacement. This is a Spotsylvania County project. Expect brief, overnight delays.

 

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone

Route 301 at Rappahannock River (James Madison Bridge)

(New) Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound from near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge inspection work. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

Essex County/Richmond County Work Zone

Route 17 and Route 360 near the Downing Bridge

(New) Monday –  Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on Route 17 and Route 360 near the Downing Bridge. Crews are replacing the lens in pavement markers on both roads near Route 617 (Richmond Road) and Marsh Street.  On Queen Street in Essex County, crews will be working from the Downing Bridge to Church Lane. On the Richmond County side, crews will be working on Route 360 from Sabine Hall Road to the Downing Bridge. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.  There will be no lane closures on Downing Bridge but expect delays near the bridge approaches.

King George County Work Zone

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

(Update) Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 (Kings Highway) near Stanley Road for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

Route 301 (James Madison Parkway)

(Update) Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 301 (James Madison Parkway) near Jersey Road for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

King and Queen County Work Zone

Route 14 (The Trail)

(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 14 (The Trail) near Darnell Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays. 

Route 608 (Clancie Road)

(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 608 (Clancie Road) northbound and southbound near Lake Pond Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Lancaster County/Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 3 and Robert O. Norris Bridge

Temporary traffic signals are installed at the center spans of the Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Two temporary signals control one-way, alternating traffic at the bridge’s center spans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crews are using the closed lane to paint the center spans of the bridge over the Rappahannock River. The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018.

 

Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 17 (Tidewater Trail)

(Update) Tuesday  ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 4 p.m.  Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 northbound near Dragon Road and southbound Route 17 near Old Virginia Street and Regent Road for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

Northumberland County Work Zone

Route 360

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 360 eastbound and westbound near Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road) to the Richmond County line to allow crews to replace the lens in pavement markers. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.  Expect brief delays.

Route 360

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 360 eastbound and westbound near Route 624 (Newland Road) for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.
