From Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Roger L. Harris announces the 2018 Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Scholarship
Program recipients. The selection process was very competitive and the scholarship
committee applauds each applicant for their diligence in submitting a
comprehensive and professional application packet. In addition to the application,
each senior wrote a 750-1000 word essay on one or both of the following topics

• How would you describe ways school safety has affected the overall educational
system in your community and what role do you believe a School Resource Officer
(Deputy) plays?

Scholarships were awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, school
involvement, and community involvement. Twelve high school graduating seniors
were selected to receive a $500 scholarship of financial support to those attending a
two or four year college, a visual or performing arts school, or a vocational/technical
school. Each recipient received their scholarship at their respective high schools
convocation ceremony that was held during the week of May 21, 2018. These
scholarships were made possible by local donations from area businesses and
citizens.
