STAFFORD, VA – Stafford County Public Schools is pleased to announce that the North Stafford High School library is one of seventeen libraries showcased in the American Libraries magazine September/October “2018 Library Design Showcase” issue. The American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest and largest library association in the world. ALA’s mission is to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all. They publish American Libraries.
This is the 30th year of the annual feature publication; the September/October issue honors innovative and interesting constructions that effectively address library user needs in the US and Canada. The highlighted projects include a mix of public, academic and special libraries completed between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018. North Stafford High School is the only school project included in the issue.
The library remodel took place during the summer of 2017 and transformed the space into a state-of- the-art facility inspired by academic libraries. The library is complete with a makerspace, collaborative rooms, instructional areas, and an immersion lab. Floor to ceiling glass doors feature the likenesses of seven historical figures chosen by the student body, including Maya Angelou, Jackie Robinson, and John Glenn.
The library has also received a best Design Award from VA4LE and a feature article in Interiors and Sources Magazine.
Students, faculty, and staff using the library enjoy the updates, and find that it enhances their learning experiences.
