From Experimac

Have you begun to feel the shift in the weather from hot days to cooler nights? From May to August, most of us prefer to keep our ovens off and instead look for cooler desserts to satisfy our sweet tooth. Ice creams, sherbets, and even fresh fruit are refreshing and a sweet treat on those hot summer nights. But, as the weather cools down most of us are ready to turn our ovens back on and bake some delicious warm treats.

Rather than running to the store and grabbing a box mix of cake or brownies, why not make something a little more special? Homemade baked cookies require a little more labor than the pull-a-part variety but your loved ones will appreciate the work and trust us, they taste considerably better. With the holidays around the corner, now is as good a time as ever to start finding recipes to surprise your friends and family.

Here are five baking apps that we have explored to find inspiration and good recipes to fill our bellies with some yummy delicious treats.

  1. NYT Cooking

The NYT (New York Times) Cooking app includes a large catalog of clever, classic, and experimental desserts to fit any diet. Simple Grilled Peaches, which are exactly what they sound like, are simple but certainly delicious. Pan-Baked Lemon Almond Tart will impress even the pickiest of eaters and Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Bars are the perfect hostess gift for your first holiday party of the season.

  1. Tasty

More than likely you have seen at least one of those cooking videos that started invading Facebook several years ago from Tasty. The team at Tasty creates simple, easy to follow recipes that are fun to watch and even better to eat. Tasty isn’t trying to help you get healthy, in fact, most of their recipes are sinful but that’s what makes it so much fun. Recipes on Tasty include Fried Cinnamon Crunch Cheesecake Bites and Rainbow Swirl Meringues. Download this app and invite your favorite youngster into the kitchen to get your hands dirty having fun. Baking is supposed to be fun, right?

  1. Food Network

Of course, the holy grail of food-loving media companies has to have an app! Food Network’s app isn’t limited to just baked goods, but their desserts section is full of delicious treats from some well-known chefs from the network including Ina Garten and Giada de Laurentiis. One of the nicest features of the Food Network app is the option to save recipes to the notes of your phone with a simple click. You can then use your notes when you head to the grocery store, which will hopefully eliminate any last-minute runs to the store for forgotten ingredients.

  1. Yummly

Yummly is a smart app that shares recipes that fit your lifestyle, diet, and so much more. On a diet but still want to eat a cheesy pasta or have some oatmeal cookies? Yummly will find the right recipe for you. But Yummly also learns about you based on the recipes you like most. Yummly’s smart backend can serve up recommended recipes for you so that you’ll never feel uninspired in the kitchen. We like to use Yummly to recommend quick weeknight meals and of course, everyone’s favorite course, dessert. Yummly’s repertoire of desserts includes Strawberry Cupcakes and an all-time favorite, Moist Banana Bread.

  1. All Recipes

If you have ever searched the web for a specific recipe, more than likely at some time, you landed on All Recipes. All Recipes has been around for years and over the course of its lifetime, has captured recipes from all around the world. All Recipes has a community of over 50 million users who submit, review and rate recipes for every course. The app also lets you sort recipes that are low-calorie, gluten-free, heart-healthy, vegetarian, diabetic, and more. This makes it easy for every family to find recipes they will love such as Cherry Cream Cheese Dump Cake and Marbled Pumpkin Cheesecake.

We hope that you feel inspired to get in the kitchen and start baking for your friends and family. Each app we shared above is available in the iTunes® app store making all of them a great choice for Apple® device users. Have any problems downloading apps to your iPhone® device or iPad® tablet? Come into your local Experimac and we will help you get set up so that you can start baking delicious treats. We only ask that you bring us a little something too!
