COVID-19 cases double in a week in the Rappahannock Health District

by | Apr 13, 2020 | Health care

The Rappahannock Area Health District reports 171 cases of COVID-19 in the region.  A week ago at this time we were at 85.

Stafford 87
Spotsylvania 51
King George 14
Fredericksburg 13
Caroline 6

27 are hospitalized.

Allison Balmes-John with the Health District tells us they continue to complete contact tracing, interviewing patients who have tested positive for the virus and reaching out to the people they have been around while symptomatic and in the two days leading up to showing symptoms.

People identified as close contacts of a case, which includes anyone who was within 6 feet of the individual for more than 10 minutes, are asked to quarantine for 14 days since exposure to the confirmed case and monitor closely for any symptoms. She says contacts who do not meet this criteria of a close contact may still be contacted by the health department with instructions to closely monitor their symptoms and stay home as much as possible.

Even with contact tracing taking place, the Health Department continues to urge residents to stay home where possible, practice social distancing and wear cloth masks when in public, and practice good hygiene such as frequent hand washing and not touching their face.
