With the sharp increase in coronavirus cases across Virginia, the Brisben Center in Fredericksburg is reinstituting safety measures on December 8 to reduce the risk of an outbreak among its shelter population.
- Clients/residents with standing commitments in the community will be relocated to an area hotel, where they will continue to receive case management and targeted services to help them transition to housing.
- Residents remaining at the shelter—many of whom with compromised health conditions—will have some of their travel into the community restricted.
- Volunteer activities at the shelter will be limited to meal preparation and other critical tasks.
New shelter residents will continue to be accepted, following safety protocols, as space is available. The Brisben Center remains fully staffed and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Once vaccines are widely distributed, and at the direction of public health officials, the Brisben Center anticipates a quick return to its 80-bed capacity.
