While our preference is to use actual live fire in our training evolutions, the logistics to conduct such burns are not always available or cost effective. To fill those gaps, this new simulator, combined with simulated smoke, provides the limited visibility environment and somewhat realistic look of flames for crews to train on search and rescue techniques, as well as extinguishment. The simulator has sensors on it that detect the amount of water applied, requiring crews to correctly apply a hose stream long enough to “extinguish” the flames.
