From Stafford County Schools:

Stafford High School’s 2021 festival play, The Secret in the Wings, had an outstanding showing at the Virginia Theatre Association (VTA) Conference last month. All aspects of the production were recognized with top honors for individual and group achievements to include Best Play, Best Actress, two All-Star Cast acting awards, and Outstanding Technical Merit. Stafford High School will go on to represent the state of Virginia at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) in Memphis, TN, this March.

“This was an exceptional weekend for Stafford High School’s theatre students. They have worked extraordinarily hard and demonstrated tremendous dedication and talent in order to garner these well-deserved honors,” said SHS Theater Director Michael D’Addario. “Winning at VTA and going on to SETC is a great honor for our school and our community. It amounts to winning a state championship and then competing for a national title.”

The SETC is held annually in March and attended by 5,000 secondary and college theatre students, educators, and professionals. The conference also hosts more than 300 workshops and classes. During this year’s event, Stafford High School will compete against the top twenty high school theatre productions from the southeastern United States.

“We are so very proud of the hard work of our students, but the trip to Memphis will be an expensive one,” said D’Addario. “Our students will be working very hard over the next few months to raise funds to support this trip. With no live performances in the past two years, and therefore no source of revenue, we are asking our community to support their efforts by attending one of the many upcoming fundraisers.”

Stafford Theater students will host several fundraising events from now through early February:

  • December 4 – Barnes and Noble book fair
  • December 9-11 – “Seven in One Blow,” a modern fairy tale play for all ages based on The Brave Little Tailor. Performances Dec. 9 and 10 at 7pm; Dec. 11 at 11am, 3pm and 7pm at the Stafford High School theater. Admission is $4 for children, students and seniors, and $6 for adults.
  • January 11 – Spirit Night at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburger, South Gateway Drive.
  • February 10 – Stafford County Improv Fest, an improv comedy show featuring students from across Stafford County. Show starts at 7pm. Admission is $3 for students, and $5 for adults.
