From Mary Washington Healthcare:

Mary Washington Healthcare’s (MWHC) new Graduate Medical Education (GME) program has earned accreditations from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for internal medicine and family medicine specialties.

Medical interns and residents accepted into MWHC’s GME program will begin their training in MWHC hospitals following their graduation from an accredited medical school. The GME program benefits the greater Fredericksburg region by enhancing access to primary care services; it provides a pipeline of future physicians as the community continues to grow and healthcare needs become more complex.

“ACGME accreditation of our program ensures we offer the best practices, research, and advancements in educating the next generation of physicians. Our goal is to welcome 15 internal medicine residents and six family medicine residents in July 2023. By training in our sophisticated health care system, residents will learn in a dynamic environment that prioritizes quality care and patient safety,” says Stephanie Goldberg, MD, FACS, Vice-President and Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) of the GME program.

The MWHC GME program has received 1,800 internal medicine applicants and applications will open soon for family medicine residents. The program’s long-term goal is to have over 150 residents within five years and expand the program to include other specialties.
