Louisa County receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

by | Dec 18, 2022 | Government

From Louisa County:

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has once again bestowed its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award on the Louisa County Finance Department. Receiving this recognition for the Fiscal Year 2023 Budget is significant because it signifies the Louisa County Adopted Annual Fiscal Plan effectively serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

Work on a county budget is a year-round process and necessary to support local services like schools, public safety and parks. While Virginia state law requires that county governments pass and maintain a balanced budget every year, award recipients – like Louisa County – have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of governmental budgeting. The thorough documentation of County processes, goals and management needs make the document a resource for staff as well as the public. Louisa County citizens may review the Adopted Annual Fiscal Plan to learn more about Louisa County offices and divisions, revenue analysis, and strategic initiatives, including:

  • Bolstering economic well-being;
  • Practicing good governance;
  • Funding the future; and
  • Strengthening civic partnership.

The Louisa County Board of Supervisors applaud the Finance Department and its Director, Wanda Colvin, for receiving the Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation. “This document includes year-over-year budgetary details and is a wonderful example of transparency in government,” said Green Springs District Supervisor Rachel Jones. “It provides operating information and details on the principles guiding our decisions.”
